Facebook Have More Of An Effect Than You Think?

I know, I know, I know. I am yet again writing about facebook. Well I could write about Japan. But I really love Japan and writing about the earthquake and nuclear situation makes me sad.
Besides is Facebook not one of the biggest websites out there? The Answer is yes so you know.


Now. Shall we get to the point?

The Globe and Mail recently covered some of the effects of Facebook along with the increasing use of technology, the interviewer or speaker says: "Its getting younger and younger." I totally agree. How much kids on facebook do you think actually joined when they turned 13? There is Kids younger than that on there trust me.

Not only does Facebook effect kids. It can also effect you getting a job. Really? Yes really, Since these days many job employers will "Stalk." Your myspace and facebook to find out about you.


And it can effect your real life too. Ever heard of addiction?

Addiction:

• being abnormally tolerant to and dependent on something that is psychologically or physically habit-forming (especially alcohol or narcotic drugs)
• an abnormally strong craving 

Well technically being 'addicted' to facebook is more like the second definition.  A strong craving.

Some people have Facebook linked to their cell phones so they can constantly check their status updates. Sometimes it gets so bad that people "LIVE" on facebook.
Even bidding their friends "Good Night." And rushing right in the morning to check their facebook updates and comments.

Being "Addicted" to Facebook is more or less a "Effect" of facebook. Or in this case Facebook over usage. Sometimes Facebook members will use the website as a "Popularity Contest."  Ie: Who gets the most likes:
Or a way to raise their own self-esteem. Ie: Post a picture of yourself and whine "I"m Ugly, " In only to have your friends come with their snazzy lines saying "Your Gorgeous. " And such.

Though Facebook is a GREAT THING. It can have it downsides. Not that the creator intended it to have these downsides. It more downsides the users have created themselves.

The world is full of  social networking sites. Its easy for the average person to create a new identity. A lot of people become addicited o these sites because they can be whoever they want to be. A bookworm can easily post a picture thats not them, and can become a cheerleader or supermodel.

They can write fake "Posts." To make their life more exciting.

To put it short: Teens can create another person, and live in a fantasy world. They can be the person they want to be, or "Do." things they wish they could.

Example: Young Jane Smith lives a boring life. She is average. Never accomplished anything. But online she is Anne Marie LaTravese, A girl living in Paris, Who has stunning looks and is also a model.

Theres nothing wrong wtih playing "Pretend." But, sometimes this Fake identiy can lead to computer addiction, trying to get the most time possible in their "Fake Lives." Or even worse Depression, the user might think, "Why can't I be as good?" Or because everything in their lives is "Fake." They might turn to cutting to get feelings, or try to commit sucide because their "Life" is not real so why live it?

Out of  over 7547460 (As of March 2008) facebook ushers, how many of those users put all thought and truth into their posts Or own multiple accounts, living multiple lives?

"But lately, people in the know are whispering that, two thirds of those ‘users’ are individuals with multiple accounts for Mafia Wars, FarmVille, etc. They say in five years nobody will use “Failbook” and that it will go the way of Friendster"~According to http://www.webguild.org  

So when you are online, not all people are what they seem.

Facebook To Start Charging?

There has been a rumor floating around "Facebook will start charging." The Estimated price is $4.99... But, will Facebook start charging? Will we have to pay to use facebook? NO and No. Facebook will start charging when Google starts charging per search, So those of you holding your breath you can give a sigh of relief! Why won't facebook charge?
-No one will go on
-No one will pay
-They will be shooting themselves in the foot
-they will lose "partnerships"
-They won't have the title of World's biggest networking site
Facebook charging might have been an idea looked at. But its not going to happen! So all you facebook junkies can relax!

Have you heard of facebook? If you haven't... Facebook is a social networking site, available to those 13 and older. You can write stuff on your "wall" or profile and people can leave comments, you can also add photos and videos.

But Facebook didn't just appear? It was created. It was created by a college student: Mark Zuckerberg. When it was first created it wasn't called facebook, It was called TheFacebook. And It could only be used by students at his university

Did I mention he went to Havard? It than expanded to be used by University Students all over North America, than it went down to High School students, than down to 13+
Now it has over 400 Million Users Worldwide. Well in every country except China, Syria, Vietnam, and Iran. Where it has been banned.

When you think of the guy who created it, your first thought is probably a big rich man on a fancy computer.

Mark is now a CEO of facebook. He didn't create it alone he created it with:

Fun Fact: Just a rumor but Facebook might be charging $4 per month to be used. Will you use it if you have to pay? Its just a rumor.
